First, Rahul Dravid resigned from the captaincy. Now, Sachin Tendulkar has refused the top job in Indian cricket (TOI, front page, November 7). Mahendra Singh Dhoni has done a commendable job leading Team India in the One-day Internationals and the Twenty20 format so far, and is also being groomed for the Test captaincy. The names of Sourav Ganguly, Anil Kumble and V.V.S. Laxman also figure in the list of ‘contenders’ for the most high-profile job in world cricket. The media must stop speculating about who the next Indian captain will be immediately and leave it to the selectors.
